Hubert de Givenchy founded the premier fashion brand in 1952, exhibiting Light, elegant women’s clothing such as loose and simple blouses and skirts, turning the constrictive clothed world of fashion on its head. In 1969, Givenchy took this success to the male fashion world with his men’s ready-to-wear line “Givenchy Gentleman.” Givenchy envisioned the perfect combination of formal and informal in his ready-to-wear line; clothing that exemplified masculine elegance. He capped off this elegance in 1975 with the launch of a new male cologne: “Givenchy Gentlemen.”
Contrasting from current Givenchy stores of today, Givenchy Gentleman Chicago turns the design status quo on its head. This retail space pays tribute to the original vision of Givenchy: masculine elegance, and it does so by taking cues from major notes of orris root, cedar, vanilla, amber, rose, and leather from the original “Givenchy Gentleman” scent.
Returning to the roots of Givenchy, the massive, cedar-clad orris root reproduction inversely weaves up into the grand front room and around the upper level, exposing the masculine elegant roots of the fashion name. These roots fully display the latest season’s fashion trends, which are incorporated into the branch-like extrusions. Vanilla hued walls, amber copper siding, and rose velvet fabric deliver more visual cues to the cologne’s notes. The leather on the main divider wall in combination with the cedar cladding add an aromatic experience to the space, paying further homage to the “Givenchy Gentleman” scent. Staying true to the classicism, ease, and elegance of Givenchy’s vision Givenchy Gentleman Chicago brings a new, brand inspired design retail space that returns to the roots of the Givenchy name.
